IUI

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

We are happy to tell our parents that our intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments, also referred to as artificial insemination (AI), have an exceptionally high 50 percent success rate. This treatment may be the ideal solution for many couples facing struggles, such as unexplained infertility or male infertility. Treatment varies depending on the recommendations of the doctor based on your unique circumstances, but IUI is inherently a relatively low-risk procedure that help you finally hold a baby in your loving arms.

When Is IUI Recommended?

IUI treatment will be discussed with your doctor after a thorough diagnosis and assessment indicates the treatment may be appropriate for you. Generally speaking, the treatment may be recommended for patients experiencing any of the following conditions:

  • Fertility drug treatment is unsuccessful
  • Hostile cervical mucus
  • Male infertility
  • Sexual pain makes intercourse impossible
  • Sperm donor is being used
  • Unexplained infertility

What Is Involved with IUI?

Before starting IUI treatment, it’s normal to feel nervous. Please do not hesitate to discuss any questions or concerns you have about your treatment with your doctor before and during the procedure. The procedure itself is routine and relatively simple, enough so that it can be performed right here in our office. The doctor will begin by washing the semen, whether it is that of the father or a sperm donor, to remove impurities and leave only that which is needed for conception. The washed semen is then transferred into your uterus through a small, thin tube that has been placed in your cervix.
Once the procedure is complete, your doctor may instruct you to take progesterone. About a week following IUI, you may need to return to the office for blood work for the doctor to check your estrogen and progesterone levels. Then, 10-14 days post IUI, you’ll be asked to take a home pregnancy test or come to the office for a pregnancy blood test. The waiting period between the treatment and finding out whether it was successful can be emotionally and mentally taxing, so please stay in communication with us at all times. We are here to give you the support you need.

Risks of IUI

When IUI is performed by an experienced medical professional, there is minimal risk involved. Following the procedure, you will be closely monitored to ensure there are no complications from treatment. Please communicate with our team immediately if you experience any discomfort or concerns.

Success Rate

The success rate of your IUI treatment will depend on your specific circumstances, but on average we are happy to let all of our patients know that our success rate is typically around 50 percent — far higher than the average IUI success rate. This astounding success rate is made possible by the dedication of our professional team that consistently puts the patient first. We strive to ensure that your treatment plan is right for you, so we can help you achieve your goal — a beautiful, healthy baby to love and hold in your eagerly awaiting arms.
